Rugby Football

Rugby football, often just “rugby”, may refer to a number of sports descended from a common form of football developed at Rugby School in Rugby, Warwickshire, England, United Kingdom. Rugby league, rugby union, American football and Canadian football are modern sports that originated from rugby football.

The player who had made the touchdown had to kick the ball from that point to his kicker, who was charged by the opposing side. If the kicker could catch the ball before the opponents reached him then the kick was allowed and he was entitled to place the ball for the kick at goal. When he took the kick his own team also charged for if he was unsuccessful, they would try to gain another touchdown.

Rugby is played at a fast pace, with few stoppages and continuous possession changes. All players on the field, regardless of position, must be able to run, pass, kick and catch the ball. Likewise, All players must also be able to tackle and defend, making each position both offensive and defensive in nature.

Points can be scored in various ways including some of the following: touching the ground over the opponent’s goal line with the ball in hand, a conversion play where a player kicks the ball at the goal line where the previous touch-down occurred kicking the ball above the crossbar and between the uprights of the field post. Scoring in rugby is similar to the rules of American football.

The rugby championship is the World Cup. Like soccer, teams from around the world vie for this trophy. The championship (like soccer) is held once every 4 years. A rugby team has 8 forwards and 7 backs. They play both offense and defense.
